It was confirmed yesterday ( August 7 ) That the veteran actor James Earl Jones will comeback to play King Jaffe Joffer along side co-star Paul Beats who will play Oha.

This will be the first role Jones plays after contributing his very deep and unique voice to reprise King Mufasa in the poplar movie The Lion King.

For those who are young enough to not know the movie, Coming to America was released in 1988 and it tells the story of a young Prince Akeem and his sidekick Semmi as they head to New York City to look for Akeem’s future wife.

The sequel apparently will bring the two back in NYC to try and find the lost son of Akeem Lavelle, which was unknown to the prince for his entire life but as this news reach him he must track him down and get him on track to become the next prince of Zamunda.

The full cast for the upcoming move which is supposed to premiere Dec 18, 2020 is:

  • James Earl Jones as King Jaffe Joffer
  • Wesley Snipes – Unknown part yet
  • Eddie Murphy as Prince Akeem
  • Shari Headley as Lisa McDowell
  • Arsenio Hall as Semmi
  • KiKi Layne – unknown role
  • Jermaine Fowler – unknown role

A few unknown facts about the first movie include that Paula Abdul choreographed the opening scene dance at the palace.

The name Zamunda is actually a letter change of the name of the writer Bob Zmuda who was close friends with the first movie writers Barry Blaustein and David Sheffield.

Eddie Murphy which will surely be a great edition to the sequel hasn’t been seen on the silver screen since his last movie back in 2016 Mr Church where he played Henry Church. Going back to one of his classic roles in the first Coming to America will surely be a performance to remember.
