The planet of Thra is back. The Jim Henson fantasy film of 1982 The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance is coming back on Netflix as a TV series prequel.
Lisa Henson, CEO of Jim Henson Company and Director Jim Leterrier have put together a 10 part series called Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. It is based on the 1982 fantasy film. The series explores the fall of the “Gelfling” community through some masterful modern puppeteering.
All ten episodes to be released on August 30, 2019
The series is expected to be released on Friday, August 30, 2019, at 3:01 am eastern time. This is normally the time that new Netflix series premiere. Although the time has not been officially confirmed, changes are unlikely because Netflix’s latest series has not been released earlier than 3:01 am. This means that you will have sufficient time the whole weekend to enjoy the first season of Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance.
Usually, Netflix releases all episodes of the new series at once. It is therefore expected that all the ten episodes of Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance will be released concurrently. The episodes will be available to all viewers across the country and globally at the same time. Everybody will get the entire season at the same time.
Series uses puppets instead of CGI
The series is just fantastic with the full epic trailer showing what fans should expect. It introduces viewers to gelflings Rian, Deet, and Brea in their quest of saving Thra and finding hope in the darkness
Earlier this year Henson and Leterrier told fans at Comic-Con that the series will not use CGI. Letterier said that instead of using CGI, the film would be using puppets. The production team used a green screen to remove puppeteers after production. The series is said to have taken a whole year to record all the ten episodes.
In July, Netflix released a behind-the-scenes clip showing how the world of Thra is brought to life. It featured interviews with producers, costume designers as well as actors including Simon Pegg.
